This is a lovely book about bats! It takes place on Halloween, with a little story about how this cute bat is looking for insects to eat…

and how it does it (echolocation).

Moths, beetles…

…flies and wasps. How does it manage to be so cute?! LOOK AT THIS ADORABLE SKY PUPPY.

You also see the Halloween nods, like pumpkins, and trick-or-treaters. Easy to read. Good rhythm and rhyme. Simple enough to follow.

And the back has a good-sized section with information all about bats! What they eat, where they live, how they find things, how their bodies work…all of it. All age appropriate and well written. This little volume has a lot of heart all the way through, in no small measure due to the amazing collaboration of Gold’s words and Leschnikoff’s amazing illustrations and I love it! Such a sweet addition to Halloween.
